Temples
The Mayans were and advanced society developed Mesoamerica land before the Spanish colonised in the sixteenth century. They were skilled architects, they designed and build cities of stone that stood for thousands of years and that lasted after the civilization was destroyed. Throughout the years they built pyramids, temples, palaces, walls, homes or more. They commonly decorated the buildings with stone carvings or decorations, statues and paint. Today Maya architecture is important as it is one of the only this left of the Mayas that has reliable information on their way of life.
The Maya were never really a unified empire that had one ruler with a single ruling city. They were a group split into smaller states and cities that ruled immediate vicinity and didn’t really have any impact on the further away cities. The cities within the Mayan society traded and also waged war against one another periodically they also had cultural exchanges which including architecture. They have a square pyramid called a Tikal.
As many Mayan buildings are, the Mayan temples were built with stone, with platforms on the top where wooden and thatch structures could be built. Temples were usually built in the form of pyramids with steep stones leading up to the top. The temples were important ceremonies and sacrifices took place.
