Trade
Mayans had a very advanced trade system with short, medium and long trade routes. They had many goods and materials that they traded, although the records of their trading left behind by the Mayan's is very rare. They didn't document their trading patterns as much as other areas of their lives.
The Mayan area had many precious trading items such as gold, jade, obsidian copper and other raw materials. Many tools used to manufacture these materials have been found in the Mayan region, this points towards a developed trade system The Mayans crafted items and it is assumed that they traded these for food and supplies between other Mayan tribes and their home tribe. Different Mayan states would be rich in different natural resources and would trade these resources for other things. Some states had basic necessities, such as salt or stone tools, they then traded these resources to places that lacked them. Some coastal communities were involved in the short-range trade of fish and other seafood. |
